What happens when molten lava flows into water? It creates a pillow...a very, very rocky pillow. Upon contact with water, the outer layers will cool incredibly rapidly, while the molten center continues to flow. This creates rounded knobs of cooled lava that look like pillows!
At Captain Jacks Stronghold, at the north end of the monument, we can see some of these formations. Why might we find them there?
